The effect of more energy efficient households is shown to ripple through the economy. In the above application of the KAPSARC Energy Model integrated with a bottom-up residential electricity use model, more efficient air conditioners and thermal insulation in Saudi homes is shown to reduce the power system’s dependence on inefficient plants, and lower the use of crude oil for power generation. This lower demand for crude oil also affects the operation of the upstream sector. These graphs show the reduced use of inefficient gas turbines in the summer months.
