Dav Camras replied to Dav Camras's discussion Designing airflow in large low load homes
"Sorry: 340 CFM is for that area/room only. It comes out to 0.3 CFM/sqft., less than Eric's but higher than you. What I considered such a low flow made me nervous that the room will will not maintain a uniform temperature from the glass door (wall)…"

"I actually was using those grilles for my calculations and they came up about 10' short b/c I wanted to get 100% across the room to address the heat gain on the south facing glass wall (door). I think I will just split the load and have one unit on…"

"Thanks Eric,
The room will have a fan, but... I am not a fan (pun intneded) as runing ceiling fans add heat to rooms. I would like to be able to design correctly without additional inputs.
Unfortunately, there will be no Coanda effect b/c the…"

"Thank you David for your reply. The specific 340 CFM came from Wrightsoft based on my entering actual equipment airflow capacity (Mitsubishi's PEAD/PEFY units on high) and the software's calculation as to how it parcels the air to the various rooms…"

Dav Camras replied to Haley Keegan's discussion Derating / Rating Old Insulation
"Home Energy Score has/uses a derating system I think that was developed by LBL. It is an Excel macro that is given to their certified HES raters. I think you might be able to find it somewhere. "

Dav Camras replied to Dav Camras's discussion Adding blown insulation to poorly installed batts?
"The "sad" part is the attic insulation is new and clean. The house was remodeled a few years ago and they want AC b/c it is so hot. Poor batt insulation quality with big skylight shafts have to be part of the problem. "

I am curious about other's experience as I get asked the following question all the time: Is it necessary to pull out a poorly installed batt of insulation or will a subsequent blow of cellulose or fiberglass fill in most of the missing gaps? What…
