Dave Taylor replied to Scott Katznelson's discussion Closed Crawlspaces
"I build raised conditioned floors in the southwest and cut the pad, place 4-6" of gravel with radon venting then R10 EPS. I then place a 20 mill vapor barrier across the whole surface with a mixed soil cement like dry pack to protect the surfaces th…"

Dave Taylor commented on Corbett Lunsford's video
"A recent add to our household (Xmas present) a air fryer that throws so much particulate into the air it chokes you. Worse than the stove top."

Dave Taylor replied to Daniel Baur-McGuire's discussion Cross-laminated Polyethylene vs non-cross laminated
"I use 20 mil poly on my crawlspaces and now a high traffic 90 mil has been added to the marketplace. Usually they have a scrim fiber between layers to resist tearing. Remember a 1/2" hole negates the purpose of sealing in 1500 ft. so the better prod…"

Dave Taylor replied to Daniel Baur-McGuire's discussion Cross-laminated Polyethylene vs non-cross laminated
"Daniel, Cross laminated poly has a higher tear strength but you should use 10 mil or greater or it's a waste of time, they tear to easy and defeat the purpose of the install."

Dave Taylor replied to Matthew Greenawalt's discussion Proper means of insulating raised floor above concrete
"Matthew, if you use 2 lb EPS or 25psi in two layers staggered layers 4" overall then you can put a 2x4 flat for bearing. This allows for smaller joist while giving you R20 minimum. Then between the joist I would put any batt insulation but put a foi…"

Dave Taylor replied to Kent Kjellgren's discussion Sealed crawl space for new construction
"If the batts have a vapor barrier that should be penetrated so that mold doesn't form between it and the subfloor."

Dave Taylor replied to Paul Raymer's discussion Stud cavity air returns
"Paul, I have used stud cavity returns on interior walls only, but always metal lined to inhibit odor absorption by the materials. The standard size limitation of the cavity usually under sizes your return unless using multiple bays."

Dave Taylor replied to Jerry Needham's discussion VERY TIGHT HOME WITH OVER SIZED AC
"Jerry, Your second line may be the key. "Brick over block" I think you may be experiencing vapor pressure drive thru the wall assembly. The oversize AC acts as a giant vacuum drawing the Heat and moisture to it thru the walls. Mold forming on the ja…"

Dave Taylor replied to Pamela Brown's discussion Condensation on an interior wall of a detached garage.
"Pamela, Based on what you posted David Butler and David N have the best sources of drivers of moisture. My bet is 1st source of moisture was slab on the days below zero drawing warm ground moisture upwards, second moisture from propane heater, then…"

Dave Taylor replied to David Butler's discussion How would you insulate this roof?
"Bill, I was trying to keep a gap between the metal roof and insulation for air movement and to allow a cooler insulation on contact. I had a ureathane company for 13 years and cannot stress more strongly don't install it inside the envelope. The  di…"

Dave Taylor replied to Mike Rogers's discussion Low-pressure spray foam rigs - What's your experience?
" Problems with head pressure by height above machine, viscosity of resin to iso variation etc.not really good for field applications. 13 years experience in ureathanes."

Dave Taylor replied to David Butler's discussion How would you insulate this roof?
"Bill, Most foam applicators use plural mixing machines with generators 25KW or bigger I believe logistics and cost will rule this out.
You did a great job structurally with your screw pattern to purlins and deck that's why you haven't lost any roof!…"
